Darul Uloom Arabic College, Vazhakkad is one of the oldest and most advanced educational institution among Arabic Colleges in Kerala. This Institution was established in 1871 by Koyappathodi Muhammed kutty Sahib, the elder of the traditional and well known family “Koyappathodi” in Malabar, who was known as the Sirasthadar. The forename of this institution was “Thanmiyyathul Uloom Madrassa”. This is the mother institution of all the Arabic Colleges and Madrassas in Kerala.

Chalilakth Kunchahammed Haji, the famous and well known scholar renamed this institution as Darul Uloom Arabic College. He introduced many reformations on this institution and educational system. During his tenure as principal, the Institution was hailed to the reputed status. The syllabus was reformed by introducing modern advanced subjects like Mathematics, Geography, Astrology, Malayalam Grammar, etc. and was introduced new curriculum. A modern Class system, Library facilities, Attendance Register, Progress reports, bye-laws were also introduced.

The eminent scholars and excellent teachers like Cherusseri Ahammed Kutty Musliyar, Chalilakath Kunhahammed Haji, K.M. Moulavi. Freedom Fighter E. Moidu Moulavi, Moosa Moulavi, Shaikh YusufulFadfari, M.C.C, Shaikh Muhammed Moulavi, Kanniyath Ahammed Musliyar, K.C. Abdulla Moualvi, M.T Abdurahiman Moulavi, etc,..... were taught in this historical Institution.

The elders of Koyapathodi family formed Darul Uloom Assosiation for the better functioning of the Institution. The College was acquired recognition from Madras University in 1943, and also recognized as the first Oriental Title College in Malabar. After that , as per the university syllabus, Afsal-ul-ulama entrance, Preliminary courses were started in this Institution.

In 1973 Darul Uloom Arabic College, got affiliation from Calicut University. Under the leadership and guidance of the Principal Dr. Abdulla Azhari, the college was started the courses Afsal -ul-ulama preliminary and Final classes. Gradually girls were admitted in this institution. Later Degree courses are reformed in the pattern of 10+2+3. In 1995 the college obtained recognition for P.G course from Calicut University.

This famous Learning centre has acquired the recognition (12f, 2b) of University Grant Commission, the highest educational institution of India, in 2010. Under this recognition the institution got grant in aid from UGC and has secured much physical facilities such as well equipped Library, Girls Hostel, Computer lab etc, ... Besides these, two add-on courses are also allowed to this institution.

The college got permission from Kerala Government to start two courses in 2013. Accordingly the courses M.A. Islamic Finance and B.A Functional Arabic started in the same year. Presently the College offers five courses Afsal -ul- ulama Preliminary, B.A. Afsal -ul- ulama, B.A. Functional Arabic,M. A. Afsal -ul- ulama, M.A. Islamic Finance.
