INTRODUCTION

The Post Graduate Programme in Post Afzal-ul-Ulama Degree in Arabic under credit semester system is designed to equip the student with the requirements of modern times. This programme is a well thought out amalgam of classical and modern elements of the Arabic Language and Literature. Though it retains the important characteristics of traditional MA courses emphasis has been given to introduce methods that help the students keep pace with the ever changing trends in the world of Language and Literature. The students will be taught different aspects of Arabic as a living language in the world with its geopolitical significances. The practical aspects of the Arabic Language as translation (both theory and practice), simultaneous interpretation, modern terminology and applied grammar are given due importance in the syllabus. As for literature, its modern branches i.e. Novel, Short Story, Dram, Poetry and Modern Essays have been given adequate representation.

OBJECTIVES

M.A. (Post Afsal-ul Ulama) in Arabic aims to impart the Masters of interpersonal interaction both in Arabic & English, and train the students for skilled communication in Arabic in selected situations.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The minimum duration for completion of a four semester PG Programme is two years. The maximum period for completion is 4 years. The duration of each semester shall be 90 working days, inclusive of examinations, spread over five months.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Candidates for M.A (Post Afzal ul ulama) in Arabic shall be required to have passed or acquired eligibility for higher studies in B.A (Afzal ul ulama) in Arabic examination or any other examination recognized by the university as equivalent thereto.

The criteria for selection of students to the course and regulations regarding the reservation of the seats shall be as per the rules framed by the Government / University from time to time.

EVALUATION

Both internal and external evaluation shall be carried out under direct Grading System by using a 5 point scale as the performance of students (Internal & External) as shown below.

SCHEME AND SYLLABUS

The detailed scheme and syllabus for each course shall be framed by the Board of Studies concerned and approved by the faculties concerned and Academic Council, University of Calicut based on this Common Regulation.
